Which phones do I need?

Two mid-range or better Android phones, ideally recent: the more powerful the phone, the quicker the director. One of the two also acts as the director. A third phone, optional and even older, can keep the stats. There is no iPhone version for now.

What about a single phone?

Accepted Answer

It works: it films the match with the scoreboard in the video and keeps the stats. With one phone there is nothing to switch between, so the automatic director stays off and the phone works less. It suits small courts, such as a volleyball court, or keeping the stats only.

Question 3

Do I need internet in the gym?

Accepted Answer

Not for filming and recording: the phones connect to each other on the gym's network or on one of the two phones' hotspot, and the video stays on the phone. A connection is needed for live streaming and for uploading the video to YouTube or Facebook.

Where does the tripod go?

At the middle of the long side, a few metres back from the sideline and as high as possible. The two phones sit side by side, each one turned towards its half.

How does it choose which phone goes on air?

By itself: it puts on air the phone where the play is and switches when the action moves, without jumpy cuts. Every sport has its own director.

What if the director gets it wrong?

Just tap the right phone to put it on air. A tap on AUTO gives control back to the automatic director. Manual control is always available.

Which sports are supported?

Basketball, volleyball, handball, futsal and football, each with its own rules, scoreboard and stats. All five are open in the beta; basketball is the most tested, the others improve with the matches filmed by testers.

Does live streaming to YouTube work?

Accepted Answer

Live streaming to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook or an RTMP server is in the app and is being checked during the beta. A scheduled match can be announced on the channel before kick-off; on YouTube the default visibility is "unlisted".

Where do the videos go?

Accepted Answer

To the director phone. You watch them again in the app, save them to the gallery and can upload them to YouTube or Facebook. Nothing is uploaded without an explicit choice.

Do I need an account?

Only on the director phone, with email or Google. The phones that film or keep the stats connect with the QR code, without an account. Accounts are available from age 14; purchases are for adults only.

Does the app recognise people?

No. The analysis is only used to choose the shot: it detects shapes and the ball, not the identity of the people on the court.

Do the phones get hot?

The director phone does, especially in a warm gym, because it does more work. When the temperature rises, the app notices, adjusts itself and tells you. It is best to start with the phones charged and away from heat sources.

How much does it cost?

The app is free: directing, recording, scoreboard and stats. Any subscription features, such as the cloud, are not ready yet and will come after the launch.

How do I join the beta?

By applying on the Beta page. You need the email of the Google account used on the Play Store: it is added to the list of testers and you get the link to install the app.

Who is responsible for the consent of the people filmed?

Accepted Answer

The club or the person filming: Visicatch provides the tool, not the permission to film. With youth teams, consent from the club and the families is often required. The details are in the terms of service and the privacy policy.
